Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 pck yeast
  • 1 egg (beaten)

Instructions

  1. Scald milk and add sugar, salt and shortening. Stir until shortening melts and allow to cool to lukewarm.
  2. Meanwhile dissolve tsp sugar in warm water and sprinkle in yeast. Let stand 10 minutes then add the egg. Add 2 cups of the flour and mix well. Add another 2-2 1/2 cups flour and knead for 5 minutes. Put in lightly oiled bowl and let rise for 1-1.5 hrs. Punch down and divide into 2 equal parts. Use as dough for coffee ring.
  3. Coffee Ring:
  4. roll one ball of dough into 20 inch long rope. Cut into 20 pieces and roll into balls. Mix 1/2 cup sugar with 1 tsp cinnamon. Dip each ball in melted butter and then roll in sugar mix. Place the balls in a greased bundt pan. Sprinkle with nuts and cherries and let rise for 1 1/2 hrs. Bake in 375 F oven for 30-35 minutes.
