Ingredients

  • 2 gallons cucumbers, cut in 3/4-inch rounds
  • boiling water
  • 1 teacup salt
  • 1 tablespoon powdered alum

Instructions

  1. Put cucumbers in a stone jar or glass.
  2. Pour over them 1 gallon of boiling water with 1 teacup of salt dissolved.
  3. Let stand 8 days.
  4. Drain off water and wash cucumbers well.
  5. Pour over a gallon of boiling water and let stand for 24 hours.
  6. On the ninth day, pour over 1 gallon of boiling water with 1 tablespoon of powdered alum and let stand for 24 hours.
  7. On the tenth day, drain and pour over 1 gallon of boiling water and let stand for 24 hours.
  8. On the eleventh day, drain and pour over boiling syrup.
