Ingredients

  • 2 pkg dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 6 cups flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 stick butter

Instructions

  1. Mix the dry yeast in lukewarm water with a pinch of sugar and let stand until double in size.
  2. Combine the remaining sugar, salt, and 4 cups of flour in a large bowl.
  3. Make a well in the center and drop in eggs, the yeast mixture, and milk.
  4. Mix with a spoon, then add butter and more flour; mix with hands.
  5. Keep adding flour until the dough can be handled comfortably.
  6. Knead the dough, then put it in a buttered bowl and let rise until doubled in size, approximately 2 hours.
  7. Punch down the dough, let it rise for 15 minutes.
  8. Shape into desired forms and let rise for approximately 1 hour.
  9. Bake at 350°F until golden brown.
