Ingredients

  • 4 1/2 cups unsifted flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 packages yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 1 egg white
  • sesame seed

Instructions

  1. Combine 3/4 cup flour, sugar, salt, and undissolved yeast in a bowl.
  2. Heat milk, water, and margarine to 120° to 130° F.
  3. Add the heated liquids to the dry ingredients and beat 2 minutes at medium speed, scraping the bowl occasionally.
  4. Add 1/2 cup flour and beat for another 2 minutes.
  5. Work in the remaining flour and knead to form a smooth, elastic dough that springs back when pressed.
  6. Place the dough in a greased bowl.
  7. Cover with a damp cloth (or wax paper between dough and cloth) and let rise until doubled in bulk.
