- Heat milk, water, and margarine to 120° to 130° F.

- Add 1/2 cup flour and beat for another 2 minutes.
- Work in the remaining flour and knead to form a smooth, elastic dough that springs back when pressed.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl.
- Cover with a damp cloth (or wax paper between dough and cloth) and let rise until doubled in bulk.
