Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups light corn syrup
  • 2 (1 3/4 oz.) bottles cinnamon candies
  • 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 6 red apples
  • 6 wooden skewers

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and cinnamon with 1 cup cold water.
  2. Over medium heat, stir constantly just until sugar and candies are dissolved (do not boil).
  3. Add red food coloring and cinnamon. Stir to mix well.
  4. Bring the syrup to boiling.
  5. Continue cooking without stirring until the syrup reaches 300°F on a candy thermometer.
  6. Wash apples and dry them well.
  7. Remove stems and insert wooden skewers part-way into the stem end of each apple, far enough to hold firmly.
  8. Remove the syrup from heat.
  9. Working quickly, dip each apple into the hot syrup, coating completely.
  10. Place the skewered apples on well-greased cookie sheets to let the taffy harden.
  11. Let the apples stand at room temperature until ready to serve.
