Ingredients

  • 1 lb. powdered sugar
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 1/4 c. butter or oleo
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 c. corn syrup
  • 1 Tbsp. glycerine
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. Put sugar and water in a saucepan.
  2. Stir until sugar is moistened.
  3. Add butter, salt, corn syrup, glycerine, and vanilla.
  4. Cook until the temperature reaches 270°F (soft crack stage). Do not stir while cooking.
  5. Pour into a shallow, buttered pan and cool until manageable.
  6. Take about 2 tablespoons of the candy and pull until white and porous, forming a 1/2-inch rope.
  7. Cut into pieces with shears to make approximately 1 1/2 pounds of candy.
