Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp anise seed
  • 2 Tbsp milk
  • 1 c oleo
  • 2 c sugar
  • 6 eggs
  • 5 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Mix oleo and sugar, adding one egg at a time with an electric mixer.
  2. Add the soaked anise seed mixture, baking powder, salt, and flour to the creamed mixture until combined; the dough will be soft.
  3. Oil hands and shape the dough into loaves about 2 inches wide and 1 inch high.
  4. Place the loaves on greased cookie sheets (about 3 rolls).
  5. Bake at 350°F for 25 to 30 minutes until golden.
  6. Remove from oven and slice the loaves into about 1/2-inch thick slices.
  7. Lay the slices on their sides back on the cookie sheet.
  8. Bake about 6 minutes on each side at 350°F until crisp.
