- In a large bowl, combine the self-rising flour and shortening (Crisco).
- Blend until the mixture resembles only flour again.
- Add buttermilk, stirring, folding, and mixing until it forms a ball that does not stick to the sides of the bowl.
- Place the ball on a floured surface; knead until it becomes soft and manageable.
- Roll out the dough to about 1/2-inch thickness.
- Cut out biscuits and place them in a greased pan.
- Bake in a 425°F oven until golden brown.
