- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Generously grease and lightly flour the bottom and sides of a 13 x 9-inch baking dish.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, melted butter, and eggs; stir well by hand until smooth.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the semi-sweet chocolate pieces over low heat.
- Remove the chocolate from heat and stir in two-thirds of the cake batter, then spread this mixture into the prepared pan.
- To the remaining batter, add the coconut, water, and almond extract; mix well.
- Spread this coconut mixture over the chocolate layer in the pan.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 to 30 minutes, until golden brown.
- Allow to cool, then cut into bars.
