Ingredients

  • 1 lb. roll sausage
  • 2 medium-sized onions, sliced thinly into rings
  • 1 (10 1/2 oz.) can condensed tomato soup
  • 2 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/3 c. margarine
  • 3/4 c. milk

Instructions

  1. Cut or shape the sausage into patties.
  2. Place the sausage patties in an unheated skillet.
  3. Cook over low heat until well browned, then pour off excess fat.
  4. Ensure the patties are well cooked and transfer them to a casserole dish.
  5. Brown the onion rings in a small amount of sausage drippings.
  6. Place the fried onions over the sausage patties in the casserole dish.
  7. Add the undiluted tomato soup over the onions and sausage.
  8. Sift all dry ingredients in a mixing bowl and blend in the margarine.
  9. Add milk to make a soft, but not sticky, dough.
  10. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and pat out to fit the casserole dish.
  11. Place the dough on top of the meat mixture in the casserole dish.
  12. Bake in a 400°F oven for 15 to 20 minutes until the biscuit topping is browned and cooked through.
  13. Remove from oven and invert onto a platter so the meat mixture is on top.
  14. Serve hot.
