Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon white corn syrup
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 1.5 cups chopped walnuts
  • 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Butter a 9-inch square pan.
  2. Melt butter in a 2-quart saucepan over moderate heat. Stir in sugar gradually.
  3. Add corn syrup and water; cook over moderate heat, stirring occasionally, to 290° on a candy thermometer. Add 1 cup of the chopped walnuts.
  4. Cook 3 minutes more, stirring constantly.
  5. Pour the hot mixture into the prepared pan.
  6. Allow the toffee to cool completely and then remove from the pan.
  7. Melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips over hot water or in a double boiler.
  8. Coat one side of the cooled toffee with melted chocolate; sprinkle with chopped walnuts.
  9. Allow the chocolate to set for a minute or so.
  10. Flip the toffee over onto waxed paper and repeat the coating process on the other side.
  11. Break into bite-sized pieces and serve.
