Ingredients

  • 1/4 lb butter
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1 small cake yeast
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 lb walnut meats

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and 2 tablespoons sugar; add egg yolks and mix. Add flour and combine.
  2. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm milk.
  3. Add the yeast mixture to the dough and mix well with your hand.
  4. Cover the dough and put it in the refrigerator to refrigerate overnight.
  5. In the morning, divide the dough into two portions and shape each into a ball.
  6. Meanwhile, beat egg whites until stiff, gradually adding 3/4 cup sugar.
  7. Chop walnut meats finely.
  8. Roll out each dough ball into a rectangle; spread with the beaten egg whites and sprinkle with chopped walnuts.
  9. Roll up each rectangle like a jelly roll and place on a greased baking pan.
  10. Let the rolls rise for 2 hours.
  11. Bake at 325° to 350°F for about 25 minutes until golden.
