Ingredients

  • 4 cups milk
  • 1 cup lard or Crisco
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cake yeast or 4 packages dry yeast
  • 12 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Heat milk, lard or Crisco, and sugar until warm, then let cool to lukewarm.
  2. Add beaten eggs, water, and yeast to the mixture and beat with an electric mixer until well combined.
  3. Knead the dough with hands until smooth.
  4. Let the dough rise until doubled in size, then punch down and shape into buns or bread.
  5. Allow the shaped dough to rise again until nearly doubled.
  6. Bake at 350°F for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.
