Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1 Tbsp. warm water
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. hot water
  • 3 eggs

Instructions

  1. Combine yeast, warm water, and sugar; set aside.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine shortening, sugar, salt, hot water, and beaten eggs; beat well.
  3. Add the yeast mixture to the egg mixture.
  4. Gradually add 2 cups of flour and beat well.
  5. Stir in another 2 to 2½ cups of flour to form a soft dough.
  6. Refrigerate in a large covered bowl overnight.
  7. Divide the dough into 3 portions.
  8. Roll each portion into a 1/4-inch thick circle.
  9. Cut each circle into 2-inch circles.
  10. Simmer sausage in a covered pan for approximately 5 minutes.
  11. Place a sausage piece in the center of each dough circle.
  12. Moisten the edges of the dough with a little water.
  13. Lap one side of the dough over the sausage and press the edges together to seal.
  14. Repeat with remaining dough and sausages.
  15. Place the rolls on a greased cookie sheet.
  16. Let rise for about 1 to 1½ hours or until doubled in size.
  17. Bake at 350°F for about 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
