Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 package yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup milk, scalded
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 3 1/2 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  2. Combine milk, shortening, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add 1 1/4 cups of flour and beat well.
  4. Add yeast mixture and egg, then beat.
  5. Add remaining flour to form a soft dough.
  6. Place the dough in a greased bowl and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
  7. Shape the dough and let it rise for an additional 30 to 40 minutes.
  8. Bake the bread for 20 minutes at 375°F.
