- Combine milk, shortening, sugar, and salt.
- Add 1 1/4 cups of flour and beat well.
- Add yeast mixture and egg, then beat.
- Add remaining flour to form a soft dough.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
- Shape the dough and let it rise for an additional 30 to 40 minutes.
- Bake the bread for 20 minutes at 375°F.
