Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 cup water
  • Crisco shortening
  • confectioners sugar

Instructions

  1. Mix the flour, salt, and baking powder together in a bowl.
  2. Add the eggs to the dry mixture and blend well.
  3. Pour in the milk and mix until smooth.
  4. Add the water and continue mixing until the batter reaches a smooth consistency.
  5. Heat Crisco shortening in a deep pot until very hot.
  6. Drop a tablespoon of batter into the hot oil; add enough batter to fill the pot comfortably without overcrowding.
  7. Fry until the puffs are golden brown, turning if necessary to brown evenly.
  8. Remove the puffs from oil and drain on paper towels.
  9. Sprinkle with confectioners sugar before serving.
