Ingredients

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 2 packages active dry yeast
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup softened shortening

Instructions

  1. Combine warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar in a bowl.
  2. Add salt and 2 cups of flour; beat for 2 minutes with an electric mixer or rotary beater.
  3. Add eggs and softened shortening to the mixture.
  4. Beat for 1 minute until well blended.
  5. Stir in 4 1/2 cups sifted flour and mix until dough is formed.
  6. Let the dough rest for 20 minutes to make it easier to handle.
