- Grease an 8 x 8 inch or 2-quart baking dish and preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Measure the oats, flour, salt, cinnamon, and brown sugar into a bowl.
- Pack the brown sugar and measure the margarine.
- Cut the margarine into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles small peas.
- Adjust the oven racks so that the pan will be in the center of the oven.
- Peel and slice the apples.
- Arrange the sliced apples in the prepared baking dish.
- Spread the oatmeal mixture evenly on top of the apples.
- Press the topping lightly into the apples.
- Bake for 30 minutes until the topping is light brown and the apples are tender.
- Serve warm, optionally with milk or ice cream.
