Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 4 cups peeled, sliced apples
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Grease an 8 x 8 inch or 2-quart baking dish and preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Measure the oats, flour, salt, cinnamon, and brown sugar into a bowl.
  3. Pack the brown sugar and measure the margarine.
  4. Cut the margarine into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles small peas.
  5. Adjust the oven racks so that the pan will be in the center of the oven.
  6. Peel and slice the apples.
  7. Arrange the sliced apples in the prepared baking dish.
  8. Spread the oatmeal mixture evenly on top of the apples.
  9. Press the topping lightly into the apples.
  10. Bake for 30 minutes until the topping is light brown and the apples are tender.
  11. Serve warm, optionally with milk or ice cream.
