Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups small marshmallows
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Boil the evaporated milk and sugar together for 5 minutes until hard.
  2. Remove from heat and add marshmallows, chocolate chips, vanilla, and chopped nuts; stir until smooth.
  3. Pour the mixture into a buttered 8-inch pan.
  4. Allow to cool completely, then cut into pieces.
  5. You can substitute butterscotch or peanut butter chips for the chocolate chips if desired.

Tips & Substitutions

For a smoother texture, ensure the sugar is completely dissolved before adding the marshmallows and chocolate chips. If you want to experiment, butterscotch or peanut butter chips can be used in place of chocolate chips for a different flavor profile. Also, keep the heat at medium to prevent the milk from scorching while boiling.

Serving Suggestions

Cut the fudge into small squares and serve it as a sweet treat after meals or alongside coffee. It pairs beautifully with Kristina'S Favorite Vegetable Dip for a sweet and savory snack platter. For a festive touch, consider wrapping pieces in colorful cellophane for gift-giving or holiday gatherings.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover fudge in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. If you need to keep it longer, refrigerate it for up to two weeks. To reheat, cut into pieces and warm in the microwave for a few seconds, just until slightly softened.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this fudge without nuts?

Yes, you can easily omit the nuts if you prefer a nut-free option. This will not affect the overall texture or flavor significantly, allowing the chocolate and marshmallows to shine through.

How do I know when the fudge is ready?

The fudge is ready when the mixture has thickened and has a smooth consistency after boiling for 5 minutes. It should be pourable but not too runny. You can also perform a soft ball test by dropping a small amount into cold water; if it forms a soft ball, it’s done.

Can I freeze this fudge?

Yes, you can freeze the fudge! Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and then place it in an airtight container. It can be frozen for up to three months. Thaw it in the refrigerator for a few hours before serving.
