Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 packages dry yeast
  • 3 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Mix 1/2 cup warm water and 1 teaspoon sugar in a small bowl. Add dry yeast and let stand 15 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, combine 3 1/2 cups warm water, 1/2 cup sugar, shortening, vinegar, and salt.
  3. Mix well and let cool to lukewarm.
  4. Add flour to the mixture.
  5. Knead until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  6. Let the dough rise, then punch down and shape into rolls.
  7. Bake at 375°F for 30 minutes or until done.
