- Peel the cucumbers and cut them into 1-inch cubes.
- Sprinkle the cucumber pieces with salt and cover with boiling water.
- Cook until tender, then drain the cucumbers.
- Make a syrup by combining sugar, vinegar, and spices (oil cloves and cinnamon). Bring to a boil.
- Pour the hot syrup over the drained cucumbers and let stand overnight.
- Drain the syrup off and bring it to a boil again.
- Pour the boiling syrup over the cucumbers once more and let stand.
- The next day, boil everything together again.
- Add the maraschino cherries, cut into pieces.
- Seal the mixture in hot, sterile jars.
