Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups sifted flour
  • 1 3/4 cups sifted sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups egg whites
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Sift together flour and 3/4 cup sugar twice.
  2. Beat egg whites, cream of tartar, salt, and vanilla until foamy.
  3. Gradually beat in the remaining sugar until stiff peaks form.
  4. Gently fold in the flour and sugar mixture into the meringue.
  5. Pour the batter into a 10-inch tube pan.
  6. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 35 minutes.
