Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 5 cups sifted flour
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 2 cups buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  2. Sift dry ingredients twice. Cut in shortening until the size of crumbs.
  3. Add buttermilk and yeast mixture to the flour mixture and stir only until well moistened.
  4. Cover and put in refrigerator.
  5. As needed, use part of dough, roll out and cut biscuits.
  6. Let stand in pan about 15 minutes.
  7. Bake at 400°F for 10 to 12 minutes or until done.
