Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening or oleo
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons sour milk or buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 2 cups chopped apple
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, and sour milk or buttermilk together.
  2. Dissolve soda in the sour milk or buttermilk and add to the mixture.
  3. Stir in chopped apple and vanilla extract.
  4. Add flour gradually and mix until just combined.
  5. Pour batter into greased pans.
  6. Bake until golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
