Ingredients

  • 6 cups peeled, sliced apples
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup butter or oleo
  • 1 cup grated Cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Butter an 8-inch glass baking dish.
  3. Mix peeled, sliced apples with lemon juice and 1/3 cup sugar lightly, then spread in the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a bowl, sift together 3/4 cup all-purpose flour, 3/4 cup sugar, salt, and cinnamon.
  5. Add butter or margarine and blend first with a fork, then with fingers to make a crumbly mixture.
  6. Stir in grated Cheddar cheese into the crumbly mixture.
  7. Sprinkle the cheese mixture evenly over the apples.
  8. Bake for about 40 minutes until the apples are tender and the topping is golden.
  9. Serve warm with cream.
