Ingredients

  • 16 quart Stew pot with cover Sufficient extra virgin olive oil to coat bottom of pot
  • 5 lb Grnd beef, (5 to 6)
  • 2 can Chicken broth, (50 ounce)
  • 4 c. Water
  • 1 x 3 lb bag frzn corn
  • 1 x 3 lb bag brown rice

Instructions

  1. Brown grnd beef in extra virgin olive oil.
  2. When beef is cooked, add in broth, water, and corn.
  3. (Note which broth and water amount to just over a gallon of liquid; you can also just dump in a gallon jug of water and add in a bunch of bouillon cubes.)
  4. Bring to a boil.
  5. Add in brown rice, stir well, cover, and bring to a boil again.
  6. Reduce heat to low and simmer, covered, for 1 hour.
  7. Remove from heat and let cold overnight.
  8. Makes approximately 40-45 c. of food.
  9. For Auggie, my black lab, I divide the yield into generous 2-c. portions and freeze most of it (it freezes well).
  10. I always have some thawed in the fridge and microwave it for a minute or possibly so to get it to room temperature.
  11. I then serve it as follows:
  12. Breakfast 1 portion (2 c.) Wolfdown 1 c. high-quality all-natural kibble
  13. Dinner 1 portion (2 c.) Wolfdown 1 c. fresh shredded veggies 2-3 times a week: a little nonfat plain yogurt and an egg yolk
  14. Auggie was a reluctant eater with commercial foods; now he's a tail-waggin', dish-movin', food inhalation machine.
  15. Bon appetit!
