- Cream margarine and sugar; beat in eggs one at a time. Mix flour with soda, salt and spices. Add this alternately with sugar mixture and buttermilk. If batter seems too stiff, add a little more buttermilk. Put 3 large spoonfuls of batter in 8 or 9-inch pans which have been greased and floured. Bake at 350° for 15 minutes or until done. Stack layers with unsweetened and spiced applesauce. Makes 6 to 8 layers.
