Tips & Substitutions

For best results, ensure your water is hot but not boiling when mixing with the dry ingredients. If you don't have bread flour, all-purpose flour can work, but the texture may be slightly different. Consider adding herbs or garlic powder to the dough for extra flavor. Kneading is crucial; it develops the gluten, leading to airy rolls. If you prefer a sweeter roll, increase the sugar slightly.

Serving Suggestions

These rolls are perfect served warm with butter and jam, or alongside a hearty soup. They also pair beautifully with a Crescent Tuna Melt for a satisfying meal. Consider serving them with a salad for a complete lunch. For a special occasion, drizzle with a glaze or serve with honey for a sweet treat.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. For longer storage, freeze them in a freezer-safe bag. To reheat, wrap rolls in aluminum foil and warm in a 350°F oven for about 10 minutes, or microwave them for 15-20 seconds until warm.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make the dough ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the dough ahead of time and refrigerate it after the first rise. Just remember to punch it down occasionally. When you're ready to bake, shape the rolls and let them rise until doubled before baking.

What if my rolls don't rise?

If your rolls don't rise, check the freshness of your yeast. Active dry yeast should bubble when mixed with warm water and sugar. If it doesn't, it may be expired. Additionally, make sure your dough is kept in a warm, draft-free area to encourage rising.

Can I add ingredients like cheese or herbs?

Absolutely! Adding shredded cheese, herbs, or even garlic can enhance the flavor of your rolls. Just mix them in after you have a soft dough, before the final rise. Experiment with your favorite ingredients for a personalized touch!
