Ingredients

  • 3 egg whites
  • 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions

  1. Whip egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks form.
  2. Gradually add sugar and vanilla, continue whipping until stiff peaks form.
  3. Optional: add food coloring if desired.
  4. Line cookie sheets with brown paper bags.
  5. Spoon or pipe the meringue mixture onto the prepared sheets.
  6. Bake at 275°F (135°C) for 40 minutes until lightly browned and crisp.
