Ingredients

  • 2 egg yolks
  • 4 Tbsp melted butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • flour
  • 3 1/2 cups almond powder
  • 1 lb unsalted butter
  • 1 Tbsp cardamom
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup pistachios
  • sugar

Instructions

  1. Thoroughly mix together almond powder, cardamom, and powdered sugar. Set aside.
  2. In a flat baking pan, combine egg yolks, milk, and melted butter.
  3. Add flour gradually until a dough forms.
  4. Ensure the dough does not stick to your hands.
  5. Divide the dough into 5 equal portions and place each into a plastic bag.
  6. Remove one piece at a time and roll out into a sheet to fit the pan.
  7. Cover the bottom of a well-greased pan with 2 pastry sheets, brushing each sheet with melted butter before adding the next.
  8. Add 2 more sheets on top, greasing each sheet.
  9. Cut the pastry into 1 x 1-inch squares.
  10. Pour 3 to 4 tablespoons of melted butter over the cut pastry.
  11. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. Immediately drizzle the prepared syrup over the hot pastry.
  13. Cover the pan with aluminum foil and let it cool.
  14. Sprinkle chopped pistachios on top just before serving.
