Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups dry lima beans
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 5 cups water
  • 1/2 cup catsup
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 cup ham, cubed
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder

Instructions

  1. Heat the lima beans with salt in boiling water for 1 minute.
  2. Lower heat and simmer for 1 hour until the beans are tender.
  3. Drain the beans, reserving 1/2 cup of the liquid.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  5. Layer the cooked beans, cubed ham, and chopped onion in an ungreased casserole.
  6. In a bowl, stir together catsup, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, and the reserved bean liquid.
  7. Pour the sauce mixture over the layered ingredients in the casserole.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour.
