Ingredients

  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Cut shortening into self-rising flour until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Add milk and stir until the mixture leaves the sides of the bowl, using a fork if desired.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured board.
  4. Knead the dough gently until smooth.
  5. Pat the dough into a 1/2-inch thick sheet.
  6. Cut out biscuits using a 2-inch cutter.
  7. Place the biscuits on a greased baking sheet.
  8. Bake at 450°F (232°C) for 10 to 12 minutes until golden brown.
