Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • celery seed (optional)
  • dried onion (optional)
  • nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a saucepan and add 3/4 cup milk.
  2. Mix cornstarch with the remaining 1/4 cup milk until smooth.
  3. Add the cornstarch mixture to the milk in the saucepan.
  4. Stir constantly and heat until the mixture just starts to boil, then turn off the heat.
  5. Optional: add Swiss, Cheddar, or Velveeta cheese to make a cheese sauce.
  6. Pour over noodles, potatoes, or chopped broccoli.
