A rich, layered Baumkuchen-Torte with buttery sponge layers brushed with apricot jam and covered in smooth chocolate frosting, perfect for special occasions and dessert lovers.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 8 egg whites
  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • apricot jam
  • chocolate frosting

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter with egg yolks and sugar until smooth.
  2. Add sifted flour and baking powder to the mixture.
  3. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites gently.
  4. Line the bottom of a round cake pan with greased wax paper.
  5. Bake the dough in 12 to 15 separate layers, approximately 3 tablespoons each, at 350°F (175°C) for about 5 minutes per layer until slightly golden.
  6. Allow each layer to cool, then brush with apricot jam and stack on top of each other.
  7. Once all layers are assembled, cover the entire cake with chocolate frosting.
