Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. green beans
  • 1 clove garlic, halved
  • 2 Tbsp. chopped onion
  • 3 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper

Instructions

  1. Wash the green beans, trim the ends, and remove any strings.
  2. Cut the green beans in half crosswise.
  3. Saute the halved garlic and chopped onion in vegetable oil; remove and discard the garlic.
  4. Add the prepared beans, boiling water, sugar, basil, salt, and pepper to the skillet.
  5. Cover and cook over medium heat for 25 minutes, or until the beans are tender.
  6. Add an additional tablespoon of water if necessary during cooking.
