Ingredients

  • 3 lb. bear meat, cubed
  • 5 medium potatoes, cubed
  • 3 tomatoes or 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 3/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons bacon grease
  • 3 carrots, sliced
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Brown the bear meat well in hot bacon grease.
  2. Season the meat with salt and black pepper.
  3. Cover with hot water and simmer for 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
  4. Add cubed potatoes, sliced carrots, chopped tomatoes or ketchup, and bay leaves.
  5. Cook slowly for 25 minutes until meat and vegetables are tender.
  6. Thicken the stew slightly with flour mixed with cold water before serving.
