Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup self-rising cake flour
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 6 eggs
  • 3 teaspoons lemon or vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Sift the flours together six times.
  2. Cream the butter and shortening well.
  3. Gradually add the sugar, beating continuously.
  4. Add the flour in small portions, alternating with milk, and mix thoroughly.
  5. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition.
  6. Stir in the lemon or vanilla extract.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased and floured 10-inch tube pan.
  8. Place the pan in a cold oven.
  9. Set the oven to 325°F (160°C).
  10. Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
