Ingredients

  • 3 eggs, slightly beaten
  • dash of salt
  • 2 1/2 cups milk, scalded
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Blend eggs, sugar, salt, and vanilla until well combined.
  3. Gradually stir in scalded milk into the egg mixture.
  4. Pour the mixture into six 6-ounce custard cups.
  5. Sprinkle each with nutmeg.
  6. Place cups in a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan.
  7. Pour very hot water into the pan to within 1/2 inch of the tops of the cups.
  8. Bake for 45 minutes or until a knife inserted halfway between the center and edge comes out clean.
  9. Remove cups from water and serve warm or chilled.
