Ingredients

  • 1 box vanilla wafers
  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 pound confectioners sugar
  • green food coloring
  • small mint patties
  • sesame seed
  • lite Karo

Instructions

  1. Take half of the vanilla wafers and brush the top of each with a little lite Karo, then sprinkle with sesame seed.
  2. Take the remaining half of vanilla wafers and leave them plain.
  3. Mix 1/2 cup Crisco, 1/4 cup warm water, and 1 pound confectioners sugar to make the icing.
  4. Divide the frosting in half; add one drop of green food coloring to one half to create green frosting, keeping the other half white.
  5. Unwrap small mint patties; frost the bottom of the sesame seed-topped wafers with green frosting.
  6. Frost the bottom of the plain wafers with white frosting and place a mint patty on top to complete the Big Mac look.

Tips & Substitutions

For a more decadent flavor, consider using butter instead of Crisco in the frosting. If you want a lighter option, try using a vegan butter alternative. When applying the Karo syrup, a silicone brush works wonders for even coverage. For a fun twist, you can mix in crushed nuts or sprinkles into the frosting for added texture.

Serving Suggestions

These cookies are perfect for parties or as a fun treat for kids. They pair well with a glass of milk or a festive drink like Cranberry-Cherry Punch. For a themed dessert table, consider serving them alongside other fun desserts like Candied Pretzels or Toasted Cereal Snacks to create a playful atmosphere.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftover Big Mac Cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. If you want to keep them fresher longer, consider refrigerating them. When ready to serve, allow them to come to room temperature for the best texture and flavor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different type of wafer for this recipe?

Yes, you can substitute vanilla wafers with other cookies like graham crackers or even chocolate wafers for a unique flavor twist. Just ensure that the texture is similar so they hold up well when layered.

How can I make the frosting more colorful?

To enhance the color of your frosting, add more drops of food coloring until you achieve your desired shade. You can also experiment with gel food coloring for more vibrant hues that won’t alter the texture of the frosting.

Is there a way to make this recipe gluten-free?

Absolutely! Look for gluten-free vanilla wafers available at most grocery stores. Just ensure the other ingredients, like confectioners sugar and mint patties, are also gluten-free to keep the entire recipe compliant.
