Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup Crisco
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup sour milk

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, brown sugar, salt, and Crisco until crumbly.
  2. Set aside 3/4 cup of the crumb mixture for the topping.
  3. To the remaining batter, add the egg and sour milk, then mix well.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased pan.
  5. Scatter the reserved crumb mixture over the top.
  6. Bake in a 400°F (200°C) oven for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
