Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup blackberry jam
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 cup sour milk
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3 eggs

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the slightly beaten eggs and mix well.
  3. Dissolve the soda in the sour milk.
  4. Mix the flour and cinnamon into the sugar-egg mixture.
  5. Add the soda-milk mixture to the flour mixture and blend well.
  6. Stir in the blackberry jam until evenly incorporated.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased shallow baking pan.
  8. Bake at 325°F for 40 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Cut into squares and serve warm, optionally with butterscotch sauce.
