Blonde Nut Squares

Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. plus 2 Tbsp. margarine, softened
  • 1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. self-rising flour
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda plus 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. semi-sweet chocolate morsels
  • 1/2 c. chopped pecans or chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Cream margarine; gradually add sugar, beating well.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla; beat well.
  3. In another bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture, mixing well.
  4. Stir in chopped nuts and chocolate morsels.
  5. Spread batter in a lightly greased 8 x 12 x 1 1/2-inch baking dish.
  6. Bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes.
  7. Cool and cut into squares (about 1 1/2-inches).
