Ingredients

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup canned milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 tablespoon margarine or butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup nuts

Instructions

  1. Put sugar, cocoa, canned milk, water, and margarine in a 2-quart kettle. Stir until thoroughly mixed.
  2. Cook to 234° to 236° F; remove from heat.
  3. Add vanilla to the mixture.
  4. Set the kettle in a pan of cold water to cool rapidly.
  5. Do not stir until cooled.
  6. When you can touch the bottom of the pan with your hand, add chopped or whole nuts.
  7. Beat the mixture until it first loses its gloss.
  8. Immediately pour onto wax paper and spread as desired, or pour into a greased pan.
