- Soak the basmati rice in hot water for at least 30 minutes.
- Mix spices and salt with tomato puree to create a spice mixture.
- Fry chopped onions until tender, then add meat and cook over low heat, stirring until lightly browned.
- Add the tomato mixture and 1 cup of water to the meat and onions.
- Cover and simmer over low heat until the meat is cooked.
- In a separate pan, boil carrots in salted water for 10 minutes, then drain.
- Add the cooked carrots and chickpeas to the meat mixture.
- Drain the soaked rice and add it to the meat and vegetable mixture along with 2 cups of water.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and cook covered for 30 to 45 minutes until rice is tender and water is absorbed.
- Serve hot as a main dish with chopped tomato salad.
