Boiled Chiamele are delightful doughnut-like rings with a soft interior and crispy exterior, flavored with lemon and baked to golden perfection. Perfect for a sweet snack or dessert.

Ingredients

  • 6 eggs
  • 6 Tbsp. sugar
  • 6 Tbsp. oil
  • 1 tsp. lemon flavoring
  • 6 pinches baking powder
  • about 3 cups bakery flour

Instructions

  1. Make a well in the flour, add eggs and beat well with a wire whisk.
  2. Add sugar and oil and continue beating, gradually incorporating the flour.
  3. When all the flour is absorbed, knead the dough until well blended.
  4. Roll out the dough and form into doughnut rings.
  5. Put the rings into boiling water and boil until they rise to the top.
  6. Remove the rings one at a time and place on a dish towel to dry.
  7. Cut slits around the rings.
  8. Bake on oven grates at 400°F for 10 minutes.
  9. Reduce temperature to 350°F and bake for another 10 minutes until golden brown.
