Ingredients

  • 10 slices white bread
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 pound grated sharp cheese

Instructions

  1. Cut off the crusts from the bread slices and discard.
  2. Brush each side of the bread slices with melted butter.
  3. Cut the bread into 1-inch cubes.
  4. In a 10 x 10-inch casserole, layer half of the bread cubes.
  5. Pour half of the whisked milk and eggs over the bread and sprinkle with half of the grated cheese.
  6. Add the remaining bread cubes on top.
  7. Pour the remaining milk and eggs over the layered bread and sprinkle with the remaining cheese.
  8. Let the casserole stand for at least 3 hours.
  9. Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C).
  10. Bake the souffle for 45 minutes until golden and set.
