Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sourdough starter
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Instructions

  1. Combine 1 cup flour, milk, and sourdough starter; mix well.
  2. Cover and let stand all day or overnight at room temperature.
  3. Spread 1 cup flour on a work surface.
  4. Pour the dough onto the floured surface.
  5. Sift over 1/2 cup flour, salt, sugar, baking powder, and baking soda.
  6. Knead lightly until combined.
  7. If too sticky, add a little more flour as needed.
  8. Pat or roll the dough to 1/2-inch thickness.
  9. Cut out biscuits with a cutter, then pat both sides with butter or oil.
  10. Place biscuits close together in a pan.
  11. Let rise for 1/2 hour.
  12. Bake in a preheated 375°F oven for about 25 minutes until golden brown.
