Ingredients

  • 2 cups frozen chopped broccoli
  • 4 slices day-old wheat bread
  • 6 oz. Cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon powdered garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  1. Cook and drain the frozen chopped broccoli.
  2. Cube the day-old wheat bread.
  3. Grate the Cheddar cheese.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  5. Spray a 2-quart casserole with nonstick cooking spray.
  6. Layer the cooked broccoli, bread cubes, half of the cheese, and chopped onion evenly in the casserole.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining cheese evenly on top.
  8. Whisk together the remaining ingredients (onion, powdered garlic, dry mustard, ground nutmeg, salt, pepper) and pour over the casserole.
  9. Bake for 40 minutes or until the custard is slightly puffed.
  10. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
