Ingredients

  • 1 (9 x 13-inch) pan uncut baked brownie
  • 1/2 gallon vanilla ice cream, softened
  • 6 egg whites
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 cup sugar

Instructions

  1. Spread the vanilla ice cream evenly over the baked brownie layer, leaving about 1/2 inch of space at the edges.
  2. Freeze the assembled brownie and ice cream until firm.
  3. In a mixer bowl, beat egg whites with cream of tartar until foamy.
  4. Gradually add sugar, one tablespoon at a time, beating well after each addition until stiff and glossy.
  5. Spread the meringue mixture over the ice cream, sealing to the edges.
  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 500°F (260°C) for 3 minutes or until the meringue is browned.
  7. Serve immediately for best texture and presentation.
