Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup baking cocoa
  • 2/3 cup + 4 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Spray a shiny 9 x 11-inch cake pan with Pam or grease it; lightly flour, if desired.
  3. In a saucepan, melt butter or margarine and stir in baking cocoa until smooth.
  4. In a large bowl, beat eggs and sugar until well combined.
  5. Add vanilla to the egg mixture.
  6. Gradually mix in the melted cocoa mixture.
  7. Stir in baking powder, salt, and flour until just combined.
  8. Fold in chocolate chips, if using.
  9. Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  10. Bake for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  11. Allow to cool before cutting into squares.
